Here’s how Microsoft executives are using Power BI

The Customer Data and Analytics (CDnA) team at Microsoft enables strategic data insights that shape the entire organization, from high-level leadership policies to small product decisions. Both CDnA and the Power BI product have mutually benefited from a close relationship since the Power BI public preview in 2015. In fact, the early and ongoing input from this internal Microsoft team and its users has helped make Power BI the “enterprise ready”, robust, and feature-rich platform it is today. Learn more about the relationship between Power BI and CDnA, and how they use reports and dashboard to help run one of the world’s largest and fastest moving companies.

Nov 1 Webinar: Big Data with Power BI, HDInsight, and Datameer

Power BI is a fantastic data visualization, transformation, and discovery product, but it’s not designed for “Big Data”-scale datasets. Meanwhile, Azure HDInsight is an impressive cloud-based Hadoop and Spark distribution that works at scale, but it isn’t designed to be friendly for business users the way Power BI is. In this webinar, Andrew Brust will show how you can leverage the scale of HDInsight and the ease-of use of Power BI with Datameer, part of the Azure HDInsight Application Platform. If you’re a Power BI fan, and you want to do Big Data analytics without learning the ins and outs of Hadoop and Spark, then don’t miss this webinar.

August Power BI Desktop Update: Updated Drill experience

Since that update, we have heard feedback from you that while this new experience is very useful, you still have a need for the older experience, especially when using drill with unrelated categories in the hierarchy. Today we are releasing an update to the August Power BI Desktop release that gives you the ability to use both of these experience in one chart!

Hover over a block group in the Median Household Income layer to find out who your customers are in a specific area.

Responsive visualizations coming to Power BI

The Power BI mobile experience continues to evolve. In addition to much loved “just works” capabilities – dashboards and reports that just work on mobile – Power BI is providing more ways to create experiences optimized for devices of all sizes. For example, dashboards and reports optimized for phones allow even more control over the small-screen experience. Delivering a rich visualization on a large screen and then preserving that richness in a small screen can be a challenge. To address this challenge, we’ve created responsive visualizations.
