Which operators are having the most accidents?

The best way to mitigate the risk of future accidents is to understand which pipelines present the highest risk.  This first dashboard answers that question by organizing accident metrics by individual operators.  In addition to ranking the number of accidents, it also shows total barrels spilled and average days between accidents.  It is also possible to correlate average shutdown response time to average accident cost, and then compare to accident trends over time.

Which types of pipelines are most likely to fail?

Certain pipelines are more volatile than others, and it’s important critical to understand those connections.  This second dashboard examines failure causes, grouping the metrics by pipeline type and substance type.  It is also possible to determine the likelihood of ignition or explosion across different types of infrastructure and incident causes.

Which costs are associated with failure, time, and location?

The final page of our dashboard explores the financial cost of pipeline accidents.  It is striking easily to aggregate cost by different failure categories, and then correlate to specific pipeline locations through geospatial plotting.  Individual incidents can be targeted, and then summarized by total downtime, cost per day, and barrels spilled.
