Announcing refresh history updates for models utilizing XMLA endpoints

Headshot of article author Ogbemi Ekwejunor-Etchie

The general availability of read/write XMLA endpoints in Power BI Premium enables customers to leverage enterprise BI tools directly on Power BI datasets. It provides open platform connectivity for Power BI datasets; allowing enterprises to utilize the extensive ecosystem of BI tools and a wide range of scenarios such as dataset management, application lifecycle management, and complex semantic modeling to name a few! Customers are empowered to deploy semantic models at scale using existing toolsets and organizational capability (check out some of the client tools). Now, models utilizing XMLA endpoints will reflect refresh details in the Power BI Service!

In addition to the existing data refresh features listed in the documentation, the data refresh history view will reflect changes made utilizing XMLA endpoints. For a dataset updated via XMLA endpoints, the Power BI service will display last updated date, timestamp, duration, and status in the following locations: datasets contents list, overview page, settings page, refresh history, lineage view, report header, and report information cards. Customers will be able to differentiate this refresh with a new refresh tag updated via XMLA endpoint. The XMLA endpoint refresh will include any write transaction bringing new external data into a table partition. Unlike configuring refresh in the Power BI service, refresh operations through the XMLA endpoint are not limited to 48 refreshes per day, and the scheduled refresh timeout is not imposed.
