On-premises data gateway October 2020 update is now available

Headshot of article author Arthi Ramasubramanian Iyer

We are happy to announce that we have just released the October update for the On-premises data gateway (version 3000.63.6)

Here are some of the things that we would like to highlight with this month’s  release:

  • OAuth Support for the gateway
  • Google BigQuery Connector on Gateway
  • Performance Monitoring On By Default
  • October Version of the mashup engine
  • .Net Framework Update
  • Deprecation Notices
    • Kerberos single sign-on (SSO) to SAP BW using gx64krb5
    • SAML single sign-on (SSO) to SAP HANA using OpenSSL

OAuth support via the gateway

We enabled OAuth via the On-premises data gateway for SQL Server and Kusto connectors in July. This feature was only enabled for Import and not DirectQuery for SQL. With this version we have enabled DirectQuery as well. Additionally, many other connectors can now use OAuth via the gateway as well.

Google BigQuery Connector on Gateway

We are happy to announce that you can now connect to Google BigQuery using the on-premises data gateway with the October gateway.

 Performance Monitoring On By Default

We released the performance monitoring feature last year and we are now turning it ON by default for all gateways starting with this version.  This will now create log files containing query execution and system counter details.  The default values for the number of log files and size apply. Please refer to the documentation to make sure you have the required disk space on each gateway.

October version of the mashup engine

This month’s Gateway update also includes an updated version of the Mashup Engine, which will match the Power BI Desktop October update. This will ensure that the reports that you publish to the Power BI Service and refresh via the Gateway will go through the same query execution logic/run-time as in the latest Power BI Desktop version.

.Net Framework Update

The Gateway install will require .NET 4.8 framework in all versions from January 2021 and later. For information on what version of the .NET Framework is pre-installed with your operating system, consult the documentation here.

Deprecation Notice – Kerberos single sign-on (SSO) to SAP BW using gx64krb5

Since SAP no longer supports the gx64krb5, Microsoft is also discontinuing support for it effective immediately. Existing connections will continue to work but you will not be able to create new connections starting January 2021. Going forward, please use CommonCryptoLib instead .

Please continue to send us feedback for what new capabilities you’d like to see in the future.

Deprecation Notice – SAML single sign-on (SSO) to SAP HANA using OpenSSL

Since SAP no longer supports the OpenSSL, Microsoft is also discontinuing support for it effective immediately. Existing connections will continue to work but you will not be able to create new connections starting January 2021.  Going forward, please use CommonCryptoLib instead.

Please continue to send us feedback for what new capabilities you’d like to see in the future.
