Power BI Mobile Apps Update – May 2016

Headshot of article author RomiP Koifman

Introducing QR codes for reports on iOS

QR codes are now available for reports too! With QR codes, it's easy to connect an online graphic or "real world" item directly to related BI information, with no navigation or search needed. Generating a QR code for a report is easy. First, sign in to the Power BI service and open the report you want to link. Click the ellipsis (…) for the action menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, and select Generate QR.

Now you're ready to display the generated QR code. You could paste it in an email, for example, or print it out and pin up the paper in a specific location.
To use a code, open the Power BI iPhone app and scan the QR code. You go automatically to the intended report.

Stay up to date with share notifications for Windows

As the amount of available data grows within your organization, collaboration is more critical than ever. The new notification in the Power BI Mobile app for Windows can help by letting you know whenever a colleague shares a dashboard with you.

SQL Server 2016 Reporting Services improvements for iOS and Android

You can now use shared datasets with parameters to improve your data management, reducing both the load time of your reports and the data consumption needs of your device. You can also view your mobile reports with custom themes that highlight critical metrics.

Global search and the recent menu come to Android

We’re happy to introduce global search and the “recent” menu to our Android app, two features that make it even easier for you to find and access the data you need. Global search allows you to search for dashboards, reports, and groups by name. Simply start entering your search terms in the input field, and suggested results will instantly appear. Search results are separated by type, and you can narrow your search by selecting a specific type on the search result ribbon.

Additional improvements to all apps

We made some major quality and stabilization improvements this month for iOS, Android, and Windows users. Two highlights are the addition of a multi-select option for report slicers, and new support for NTLM authentication Reporting Services in SQL Server 2016 (for Android).

That’s all for this update! We hope that you enjoy these new and improved mobile features, and continue sending us valuable feedback about our product. Please don’t forget to  vote for other features that you would like to see included in Power BI Mobile in the future.
