Power BI Desktop March Feature Summary

We have a very exciting Power BI Desktop update for you this month! We have several highly-requested features in this month’s release, including textbox font color, several visual improvements, and previews of three highly requested features: report theming, a new matrix visual with major experience updates, and a numeric range slicer.

Visual Awesomeness Unlocked: Dual KPI custom visual

We have a very special new member to the custom visuals gallery: the Dual KPI. Dual KPI efficiently visualizes two measures over time. It shows their trend based on a joint timeline, while absolute values may use different scales. The reason this visualization is special is because we use it at Microsoft in executive dashboards to monitor usage and user satisfaction for each product, or when an executive wants to keep an eye on two KPIs at the same time (for example Profit and Market share or Sales and Profit).

Power BI Service January Feature Summary

As you probably know, the Power BI service is updated weekly with fixes, updates, and new features. When we release major features in the service, we always to make sure to release a coinciding blog post, so you can stay up-to-date with the latest features in the service. Going forward, in addition to these posts for individual features, we’ll be posting monthly feature summaries for the Power BI service, similar to the posts you know and love for Power BI Desktop. Azure Active Directory meets Power BI

Understanding how users adopt and use Azure Active Directory features is critical for IT admins. It allows you to plan your IT infrastructure and communication to increase usage and to get the most out of AAD features. The usage and activity reports in the Azure admin portal is a great starting point. However, many of you have shared feedback with us that you want the ability to further analyze your data to understand how you can gather richer insights into what’s going on with their Azure Active Directory for the various capabilities that you heavily rely on. So, today we are excited to announce the new Power BI Content Pack for Azure Active Directory.

New APIs available for custom visuals developers

It has been a few months since we released the new developer tools and custom visuals APIs, and we are working to add more APIs to help you develop the best custom visuals possible. On that note, we are excited to announce that version 1.4 was just released, introducing localization support, so now custom visuals are aware of the locale, and can localize the content of the visual accordingly. Power BI Desktop – 2016 Year in Review

2016 has been quite the year for the Power BI Desktop. Over the course of our 11 releases this year, we’ve released over 190 features and improvements based on the feedback that you've given us throughout the year. For December, we are taking a break from our monthly releases to focus on quality and we’ll be back early in the new year with a brand-new Desktop release. So instead of our typical monthly blog post, we’re looking back at the past year, recapping several of our favorite features, and taking a look at our big focus areas from this past year.
