Power BI March 2023 Feature Summary

After almost 10 years, support for Windows 8.1 has ended on January 10, 2023. In line with this, we will stop support for Power BI Desktop on Windows 8.1 on January 31, 2024. After that, Power BI Desktop will only be supported on Windows 10 and newer. The January 2024 release of Power BI Desktop for Report Server will be the last release to support Windows 8.1, and this version will only receive security updates until January 2025 per the Modern Lifecycle Policy.

Introducing On-object! The new way to build and format your visuals. We’ve heard time and again from our user research studies PBI desktop is hard to use. We’ve also seen countless new users struggle to navigate our UI to perform simple actions such as completely missing the fields pane all the way on the right side of the screen, unable to add data to the correct field wells, fishing around the format pane to rename, change colors, or format text styles of their visual. These same users instinctively right-click on areas of the visual expecting a menu to help. Aligning to our new “Office-like” strategy we bring you, on object. Power BI Desktop July 2018 Feature Summary

July is a big release for us on the Power BI Desktop team! Our most exciting feature this month is a preview of Composite models. This feature lets you seamlessly extend your DirectQuery models with other DirectQuery sources or even imported data. We have heard from many of you, especially those in larger enterprises, that this is an essential feature and are glad to share it with all of you. We also have many reporting features this month, including an update to our visual header that lets you not only put visual all the way to the top of your canvas, but also have extensive control over the functionality and formatting of the header.

This month our reporting features focus on accessibility and more flexibility when formatting your charts. With filtering and sorting options now available, out data view is now more powerful. Several connectors also get major updates this month, including a new driver for our SAP Business Warehouse connector that comes with numerous significant improvements.

Power BI Desktop – 2016 Year in Review

2016 has been quite the year for the Power BI Desktop. Over the course of our 11 releases this year, we’ve released over 190 features and improvements based on the feedback that you’ve given us throughout the year. For December, we are taking a break from our monthly releases to focus on quality and we’ll be back early in the new year with a brand-new Desktop release. So instead of our typical monthly blog post, we’re looking back at the past year, recapping several of our favorite features, and taking a look at our big focus areas from this past year.
