Power BI Desktop October 2018 Feature Summary

This month’s update for Power BI Desktop filled with both small and large improvements across the entire product. One huge update is support in the Power BI service for both our composite model and aggregation previews. This really enables you to start using these preview features end-to-end for your normal reports. We also have two significant data prep features this month as well: fuzzy matching capabilities when merging queries and data profiling to help identify quality issues.

Power BI Desktop September 2018 Feature Summary

We are very excited to announce that as part of our September update, we have a preview of aggregations, which allows you to seamlessly store only summarized values in memory without having to load your entire dataset into Power BI, greatly improving the performance of your reports. This month also includes a preview of a PDF file connector, which is the most requested connector on UserVoice; and one of our biggest updates to our advanced query editor in quite a while, M intellisense.

This month our reporting features focus on accessibility and more flexibility when formatting your charts. With filtering and sorting options now available, out data view is now more powerful. Several connectors also get major updates this month, including a new driver for our SAP Business Warehouse connector that comes with numerous significant improvements.

Power BI Desktop May Feature Summary

This month we have major updates across all areas of Power BI Desktop. Along with many other reporting features, we have our biggest update to conditional formatting in while, the ability to format any fields, including strings and dates, by a different field in the model. Drillthrough also gets a major update this month with the ability to carry all filters through to the destination page. We are also enabling enterprise level scalability through incremental data refresh.

This month is a very exciting month for us! We are making several of our most popular connectors generally available, including SAP HANA. Bookmarking is also now generally available, which means you can start creating bookmarks from scratch in the Power BI Service. We are also previewing a powerful feature, report page tooltips, that lets you use visuals in your own custom designed tooltips.

Power BI Desktop June Feature Summary

Our June release is full of new reporting features, new data connectors, accessibility features, and more. A few highlights of the June release are the addition of data bars to tables and matrices, markers for line charts, new map themes, and a horizontal image slicer. In addition, we are continuing to improve the “Add Column from Example” feature in the Query Editor.
