Some important updates to our monthly release cadence for April and May 2020

Headshot of article author Will Thompson

Because of the current situation we wanted to thank everyone in the Power BI community for their patience and provide an update on our monthly release schedule for Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service.

Let’s start with the Power BI Desktop April 2020 release – because of the current COVID-19 situation and keeping in mind we want to minimize any potential impact of changes in our products and services, we will be releasing this update next week on May 6th, the same day we are holding the Microsoft Business Application online event which, by the way is free this year.

Further more, you can get more details about Microsoft’s all up response though the business continuity updates in the Azure blog.

It’s important to highlight that some of the features included in the April 2020 release will be available sooner in the Power BI service between now and May 6th. Depending on the report and the features being used, if you download the pbix file you might encounter some issues when opening in previous versions of Power BI Desktop. They’ll open correctly in the April release.

For the Power BI Desktop May 2020 release, we don’t expect any changes and we are aiming to publish later in the month.

Please let us know if you have any questions in the comments section and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
