Datasets renamed to semantic models

Datasets are being renamed to semantic models in Power BI and Fabric. This will make the product clearer and more usable and reflects the immense progress that Power BI datasets have made in becoming an enterprise-grade semantic modeling technology. The semantic model name will help drive awareness of the unparalleled capabilities provided.

Community and third-party tools for developing enterprise-level Power BI and Analysis Services models

Over the past few years, along with the high adoption rate of Power BI, also came the development of new tools by the Power BI community. Customers, partners, and individual users are contributing tools that improve the productivity of users creating models and reports in Power BI. It’s an evolution of a trend that started several years ago with tools that support developers using Analysis Services as a backend platform for their enterprise Business Intelligence solutions.

Large models in Power BI Premium public preview

We are excited to announce the public preview of large models in Power BI Premium. This enables fast user interactivity over large datasets. Until now, dataset caches in Power BI Premium have been limited to 10 GB after compression. Large models remove this limitation, so dataset cache sizes are limited only by the Power BI Premium capacity size.

What’s new for SQL Server 2019 Analysis Services RC1

We are excited to announce RC1 of SQL Server 2019 Analysis Services (SSAS 2019). The SSAS 2019 release is now feature complete! We may still make performance improvements for the RTM release.
