We are almost ready to launch the public preview of the new Power BI Premium per user SKU in early to mid-November. We are excited to give users access to these capabilities as soon as possible, while at the same time ensuring that we are prioritizing the users/tenants that are most interested in previewing these capabilities. To help facilitate that process, we are offering the ability for folks to prioritize the onboarding of their Power BI tenant to the public preview.
11/20/20 Update – With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday in the US next week, we have ended priority access sign-ups. We begin onboarding all tenants to the public preview starting the week of 11/30.
How does it work?
You may request access for your tenant using the following form – https://aka.ms/PPUpreview
After you complete the information, we will notify you when we have onboarded your tenant. If you sign-up prior to the public preview announcement, we expect to onboard your tenant right when we announce the public preview. For people requesting access after the public preview announcement, you should expect to be onboarded between 24-48 hours after we receive your request.
What happens when my tenant is onboarded?
Once onboarded, users will have the ability to leverage a Premium per user trial license they can be assigned one of two ways.
- Via in-product trial experience
- Via the Microsoft 365 admin center
We strongly encourage users to leverage the in-product trial experience to acquire their trial license, as there is no limit on the number of users in your tenant that can leverage this during the preview period, and they may be self-renewed every 60 days until the public preview is concluded. However, if your organization has disabled the self-service trial experience in the Power BI admin portal, you will need to leverage the trials available in your Microsoft 365 admin center, which are more limited both in the number of users that can take advantage of this per tenant and length of time they can be leveraged. We will provide detailed instructions on how to get started in either scenario when we launch the public preview next month.
What if my tenant does not request priority access to the public preview?
Not to worry! We will also be onboarding customers who have not requested priority access every day until we have rolled out the public preview to all tenants worldwide. We expect this process to be completed no later than sometime in the first half of December.
Do I need to be the Power BI tenant admin to request priority access?
No, you may request priority access for your organization’s tenant, however, since the tenant admin will ultimately determine how the trial experience will best work for your organization, it is recommended you start having those conversations in preparation for the public preview.
The team has been working very, very hard to make this happen, and we cannot wait to make this available to all of you. Make sure you sign-up at https://aka.ms/PPUpreview to be one of the first to start using Premium per user!
