Subscribe to a report with filters applied

Headshot of article author Michael Bruhjell

Subscriptions are a great way for you and your colleagues to stay on top of your reports right from your inbox. We’re excited to announce a highly anticipated update to subscriptions: you can now create a subscription to a view of a Power BI report uniquely relevant to you!

Include changes in your subscription

When creating a new subscription, you’ll see a new Include my changes option if you have made changes to the report (e.g., applied filters or selected a slicer value). By selecting the Include my changes option, the view of the report sent to your email will capture any changes you have made to the following: filters, slicers, personalize visuals, cross-filtering or cross-highlighting, drill down or drill up, and spotlight.

Selecting include my changes option from the right hand side subscriptions pane

Deselecting the Include my changes option will create a subscription to the report in the default view as created by the report author.

Email link also captures your changes

The recurring email you receive in your inbox will continue to show your latest data but now with the changes you applied to the report when creating the subscription. When selecting Go to report from the email subscription body, you will be navigated to the view of the report in the Power BI service with the same set of changes (i.e., filters, slicers, etc.) that were applied when you created the subscription.

When managing your subscriptions, you’ll see a new State column. If you selected Include my changes when you created your subscription to a Power BI report, you’ll see the time and date this state was captured here.

This new functionality is available today to all users who can create email subscriptions. Check out the documentation for more info.
